About Mercedes-AMG®

Mercedes-AMG®, also known as AMG®, is the name for high-performance Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The brand has roots that go back to the 1960s when motorsport and engineering gurus Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher worked on the 300 SE racing engine at Diamler-Benz. Though the company discontinued motorsports activities, the duo went on to perfect the machinery. They grew into Aufrecht Melcher Großaspach (AMG®) and championed the award-winning AMG® Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8. AMG® later supplied performance technology to Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

The latest AMG® V8 engine has two turbochargers that are not mounted on the outside of the cylinder banks but rather inside the V configuration—something known as a “hot inside V.” Because the eight-cylinder engine is more compact, it allows for a low installation position and optimal weight distribution between the front and rear axles.

The electronically-regulated blow-off valves deliver an immediate response, giving a maximum charge pressure of 1.2 bar and a maximum speed of 186,000 rpm.
