Mercedes-Benz EV Charging Resources

Are you considering getting your first Mercedes-Benz EV? How exciting! To help you jump right in, we have compiled a brief guide on charging options and resources for your new vehicle.

Understanding EV Charging Options

The first thing to know about an EV is the different types of charging available. These are as follows.

Level 1

Level 1 charging uses a standard 120v wall outlet; your vehicle will come with this type of charger. While it is convenient, this is the slowest type of charging. It is best suited for overnight charging or those driving very few miles daily. Level 1 charging only offers around 5 miles of range per hour of driving.

Level 2

The next level of charging steps up the power a bit by using the same type of 240v outlet that you see used for dryers. Level 2 charging stations are commonly found in public areas like shopping centers, rest areas, and more. However, you can also install a level 2 charging station at home. Level 2 chargers are great for getting a quick charge or top-off. A full charge takes around 8-10 hours, which is perfect for overnight use.

DC Fast Charging

DC fast charging is the fastest charging option available. These stations can charge most vehicles up to around 80% in just 20-30 minutes. These are most commonly found in public charging stations around the country or public areas like the ones mentioned for Level 2 chargers. These stations are perfect for catching a charge on road trips or while out and about.

Ultimately, Mercedes-Benz makes it easy to understand how to charge your vehicle with its available tools, including a charging time calculator, charge finder, and range simulator.

Home Charging Installation

While a level 1 charger will suffice for those who drive very few miles, a level 2 charger is the best option for home. Level 2 chargers offer around 25 miles of range per hour of charging, which means you can be certain your vehicle will be fully charged overnight. Plus, this offers the convenience of not stopping at a public charging station for a faster charge.

Provided your home has a 240v outlet available, installing a level 2 charging station is not overly complicated. A majority of the process will involve mounting the box on the wall and configuring the setup. Public Charging Accessibility

The Mercedes-Me Charge network offers an extensive network of chargers across the country, making vehicle charging easy and convenient. These can be easily located through the MBUX system within the vehicle or through the Mercedes-Benz app. Mercedes-Benz also makes it easy to update the payment method you use for charging. Simply follow these steps:

  1. Inside the Mercedes Me Connect app, select “Manage contract”
  2. Choose “Mercedes me Charge charging contract” which will take you to your ChargePoint® account
  3. Log in
  4. Select the three-line menu in the top left
  5. Click “Payments”
  6. Select “Edit”
  7. Review and update your payment information and then save

Charging for EQ Models

Charging will be mostly uniform across any Mercedes-Benz EVs. For the most part, it comes down to plugging in your vehicle and initiating the charge cycle. However, there are a couple of tips to optimize your charging depending on the vehicle you own.

  • EQ Models: For EQ models, you can set your preferred minimum state of charge within the Navigation with Electric Intelligence system. When on a longer drive, it will optimize the route and prepare the battery for the fastest charge at a charging station.
  • EQB Models: Similar to EQ models, you can use battery pre-conditioning on EQB models within the Navigation with Electric Intelligence system. This will ensure you have the fastest charge when stopping at a station.

Mercedes Me App and Charging Network

The Mercedes Me app will be your best friend when owning a Mercedes-Benz EV. This is because it allows you to locate charging stations and easily complete payment for charging. After purchasing your vehicle, be sure to register your account and link your vehicle to the app.

Charging Incentives and Offers

Outside of saving money on fuel and a reduced environmental impact, owning an EV can also offer you two tax credits. One of these is for owning and driving your EV and the other is for home charging. However, there are also incentives offered through Mercedes-Benz itself, such as:

  • A Mercedes-Benz wall box charger or a $1,000 charging voucher for your Mercedes-Benz me account when buying a 2025 EV
  • Two years of complementary DC fast charging across their charging network
